2 Winter Warming Crumbles To Make This Week'

Winter is a time for amazing food. The season is finally here where soup, roast dinners, and fudge puddings are everywhere in sight and it is the ideal time to enjoy great cuisine as we hibernate for the winter. If you have your own produce in the garden now will likely be a time for harvest, and you’ll be able to enjoy fresh salads, warming pies and soups to boot.

Today we want to take a look at some yummy fruit crumbles to make the most of the fruit that is out at this time of year. As well as this, it’s an excuse to make a brand new dessert for your family to enjoy on a cold and stormy day.

Here is 2 amazing warming crumble recipes that you need to know this year.

Apple Crumble or Pie

It can be said that nothing beats a classic apple pie, but this crumble comes pretty close. When we think of autumn and winter crumble recipes, apple is a classic, and this sweet and sticky crumble is the ideal accompaniment to a scoop of clotted cream ice cream.

Ingredients:
  • 140g self-raising flour
  • 85g butter
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 3 large Bramley apples
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 60g muscovado sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

To start, weigh out caster sugar and flour into a bowl. Cut the butter into small cubes, add to the bowl, and mix with your hands until a breadcrumb consistency is formed. Place in the fridge to chill.

Meanwhile, peel and dice the apples, then place into a saucepan with muscovado sugar and lemon juice. Bring to the boil and stew for 5-10 minutes. Add more lemon and sugar to taste, and finish off with cinnamon.

Place the mix into a baking dish greased with butter, and then sprinkle the crumble topping over. Bake at 200C for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbling. Serve either with clotted cream ice cream or a warming bowl of custard for the ultimate comfort food.

Raspberry and Dark Chocolate Crumble

If you are looking for a showstopper that will wow everyone in your family this week, try this tangy and decadent chocolate and raspberry crumble. Once you’ve tried this once you’ll never go back.

Ingredients:
  • 140g self-raising flour
  • 85g butter
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 150g dark chocolate, chopped

To start, weigh out 50g of the caster sugar and flour into a bowl. Cut the butter into small cubes, add to the bowl, and mix with your hands until a breadcrumb consistency is formed. Place in the fridge to chill.

Meanwhile, in a pan add 100g caster sugar and raspberries with a splash of water, and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly softened. You still want some structure to the berries at this point.

To assemble, add the raspberries into a greased baking dish, sprinkle half of the chocolate on top. Then add the crumble topping and sprinkle on the remaining chocolate. Bake at 200C for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly. Serve with vanilla ice cream for a beautiful dessert!
