5 Ways To Support Your Family During Tough Times

Your family should always be your anchor, and refuge when things go wrong. Being able to confide in your siblings, spouse or parents is one of the most liberating things in the world, and it doesn’t come easy, because, in order to make that happen, it’s important to build a relationship based on trust and mutual understanding. However, it’s also essential to give something back to your loved ones, so for that reason, here are some ways that will help you be more supportive and considerate to your family.

Let them come to you

Sometimes, your partner, child(ren) or spouse might be dealing with difficulties that you’re not familiar with, and if you want them to confide in you, it is important to let them come and talk to you without fearing your reaction. Many parents still tend to struggle with this, which is why their children opt to talk to other people instead. If you’re looking to build relationships based on love and support, you need to accept that there will be bad things and difficult situations to deal with, and the first step towards helping your family is to allow them to come and speak freely with no fear.

Keep an open mind

Of course, it’s not always possible to control your every reaction, but with a bit of effort, it is possible to accept even bad news cool headedly. However, in order to be able to achieve that, it’s necessary to become more open-minded as that is the best way to be a rock to your family. Your kids and other family members will more likely come to you if they know that you won’t lash out or rebuff them simply out of disagreement. Even if you tend to overreact at times, at least make sure to apologise and accept the error of your ways. Being open-minded isn’t an overnight process,

Find effective solutions to their problems

Problems are part of life, and in case your family member is dealing with something, you should definitely reach out to them and offer your support and help. Nevertheless, some issues are more difficult to deal with, and in case your family members end up injured or going through any legal issues, helping them find an experienced injury compensation lawyer that will be able to help them deal with legal side of the situation, while you can always be there for them when it comes to emotional strength and resilience. Aside from that, it is essential to let your family know that seeking help is always the right things to do and that they should never feel ashamed for wanting to talk to a professional.

Don’t be patronizing

Your family members (and other relatives and friends) have to deal with their own issues, and the last thing they need from you is to lecture them on how to fix themselves. So, instead of offering unsolicited advice, it’s better to simply have an honest chat where you could look for solutions without any pressure. Being patronizing is the easiest way to drive people away, so make sure to stay away from such behaviour especially if you want to be a better and more empathetic person. It might be difficult at first, but you can always ask you, family members, to let you know when you’re acting like that so you’ll be able to recognize fix your shortcomings.

Embrace a positive attitude

Having an optimistic outlook will surely help your family come together, so if you’re more pessimistic by nature, then try to do anything in your power to change your mindset and embrace a more positive outlook on life. Knowing why your family is important to you is a great way to start changing your views and becoming a more hopeful and encouraging person.  Sometimes, people who have negative expectations often tend to be anxious or pessimistic, mainly due to fear of failure and disappointment. However, once you accept that failures are normal and there’s nothing wrong with them, you’ll be able to shift your attitude and adopt a more positive mentality.

Conclusion

Taking care of your family and being there for them is one of the greatest human qualities, so always make sure to talk to your family members and help them solve their problems because only then it’s possible to be happy and feel accomplished together.

Giving Your Garden a Makeover'

Gardens can be a little piece of paradise of our own. We can create anything we like, but sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming when you have so many different ideas. In general, you want to have a little bit of space, some green pops of beautiful blooms and spruce up your home's exterior too. So here are some easy tips for any level of gardener and DIYer to tackle.

"Gardening is learning, learning, learning. That's the fun of them. You're always learning." - Helen Mirren

Clutter

Depending on where you live and how open your garden is you might find that you end up with other people's rubbish, stray bits of wood, empty plastic pots and more. As soon as the weather permits it, head out and gather all of the clutter in the garden. For containers that you can reuse, stack them somewhere for later use. Try to recycle anything else that has landed in your garden.

Garden toys and pet toys can often find themselves in the lawn and embedded slightly too. So take the time to scoop them up also.

Grass

Any grassy areas are probably going to need some attention. Head out with the lawnmower, a strimmer and edging tool. Neaten it up as much as you can. After it is done, you might consider if you really want to keep a grass section. If you want to keep the green of the grass but aren’t in love with the maintenance, then fake grass makes an excellent option.

Something else you can do to change the look and feel of your garden is changing the shape of the grassy spaces. Transforming it into a circle or a smaller square can give you a quick upgrade without too much effort.

Flowers

Creating beauty in the garden can be as simple as adding some perennials. They take up just the right amount of space and bloom for a few weeks of the year. The hardier sorts of perennials will bloom for up to 20 years. Annual plants only have a life cycle that lasts one year. However, they produce seeds that you can use. They will need to be replanted each year. So for the lower amount of work required, perennials are your friend.

While most people will plant flowers along the edges of the garden you can bring colours further into the middle of the garden. Use varying sizes and style of pots to add colour and texture to other areas of the garden. If you like the idea of being able to smell your garden and bring in butterflies, bees and other pollinators, then consider pots of the following plants:

  • Lavender
  • Myrtle
  • Sweet Bay
  • Rosemary
  • Lemon Verbena

They have great scents that will smell even more fantastic in the long summer evenings.

Lighting

There are a lot of choices when it comes to lighting in your garden, so have a look and see where you can create a cosy spot. It might be that you’ll need to add a simple wooden beam construct to your garden to help accommodate them. Use climbing plants to cover the beams and eventually become thick enough to provide some shade too.

Solar lighting is also a great option for enjoying the long summer evenings too.

Garage

If you have a garage, and it is a little worse for wear right now, then it is time to spruce it up. The outside can stand to have a lick of paint, or perhaps a replacement door is on the cards. If your garage door needs maintenance, then here are 8 Garage Door Issues (and How to Fix them)

Painting

While there is a lot of beauty to be found in a simple stained wood effect, you might want something a little more exciting. After you have decided which colour plants you will be having, you can think about a wood stain or wood paint that will complement your garden.

You can use a range of deeper colours like black, dark green or midnight blue to help the fence almost disappear against the green of your leafy plants.

While you are at it, you can give your old pots or garden furniture a lick of paint too.

This will bring the whole garden together and will give the impression that it was done by a professional too. Because the little details matter.

Veggies

If you want to bring a new dimension to your garden, then think about if you have the room to create a small veggie patch. You probably won’t be saving loads of money on a small veggie patch, but it is a great way to get children involved, to be able to pick fresh herbs and do something good for the environment too.

Instead of using the plastic tags, you can get with bags of seeds, spend some time creating your own versions. Use some palm sizes smooth pebbles and decorate them with the name of the veggies you are growing, and place them roughly where the sprouts will come up.

The better you get at growing the veggies, the less likely you’ll need these decorative features and the more likely it is you will be able to identify the sprouts.

There are a few veggies that are really tolerant of shade, so if you have a shaded corner, you don’t have to worry about it not being used well. These herbs and veggies only need a maximum of 4 hours of sun a day:

  • Beets
  • Scallions
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic
  • Chard
  • Carrots

So no matter the layout of your garden, you are able to grow something edible in it.

Bug Control

If you get overrun with mosquitoes in the summer, there are a range of plants that you can have around the garden and a backdoor that will help you minimize them.

The best idea is to get a large pot and plant all or some of these and place them in areas that you sit, or where you leave windows open in the summer.

  • Catnip
  • Lemon Thyme
  • Ageratum
  • Lemon Grass
  • Marigold
  • Citronella Geranium
  • Peppermint

Not only do they repel mozzies, but they smell great, and you can use them for your cooking too.

If you are blighted by wasps and want to do something quick and effective, you can create a wasp trap. All you will need is a plastic bottle and some sugar water. This will also work for fruit flies and other pesky insects that can ruin your alfresco dinner.

To protect your flowers and veggies from little critters who might otherwise cause some damage, use empty crushed eggshells. They provide a source of calcium for the soil and will repel certain pests too.

Wildlife

While there are some bugs and slugs you might want to keep away, there are others that you might like to welcome. You can create bird feeders out of things like plastic bottles, Kilner jars and even empty tetra packs.

If you have a lot of hedgehogs in the area, you can create a hedgehog house for them to seek some safety in. They aren’t difficult to make and provide a nice home for the spiky creatures.

Birdbaths not only look great, but they can provide endless opportunities for you to kick back and watch the birds splash around in the morning sun.

Even the smallest of gardens can be a mini paradise for you, and the local wildlife. A few hours and some cute DIY tricks will have a garden to be proud of.

Brain Games: Challenge Your Mind in 2020'

Are you hoping to expand your mind in 2020? Perhaps you’re in a bit of a rut, maybe you’re bored and want to fill your time doing something useful or maybe you want to start making the most of your mind while you’re young and it’s still sharp! Here are some things you can do to improve it.

Read more books
Reading is so good for the mind. Unlike watching tv which is a passive action, reading forces you to use your brain- but it’s still relaxing and can really kill hours of boredom when you’re into a good book. Set a goal of how many books you’d like to read by the end of the year and then go about getting through one every few weeks. A good book is never a chore and so should be one of the easiest resolutions you achieve this year! Especially when you find a genre or an author that you love.

Do puzzles
Puzzles are great little boredom busters. Before everyone had mobile phones to sit and scroll through, people would do puzzles when they were at a loose end and it’s a really effective way to challenge your brain. From sudoku to crosswords to jigsaw puzzles and word searches, they all fire up different areas of the brain. You could even have a go at creating your own puzzles, use a word descrambler then work your way backwards to create a word game and see if one of your friends or family is able to solve it. This can be just as challenging as doing a puzzle yourself!

Travel
Travel challenges your mind in lots of ways. Having to figure out how to navigate a brand new place where you don’t even speak the language can be tricky yet rewarding, plus it’s really fun so is an enjoyable way to challenge yourself. If you wanted to really push out of your comfort zone you could even consider solo travel. As long as you take common sense safety precautions you’ll be fine and are likely to learn so much.

Take a course or class
Learning new things is a great way to expand your mind, it can be really satisfying and rewarding particularly in adulthood where you might not have dedicated time to learning about a new subject or skill for many years. It could be an academic course at an online college or university, it could be a class that you go to in person such as crafts or baking. You could join a local sports team and immerse yourself in a new sport which will keep you fit while also teaching you new things. As humans we’re curious creatures, we’re at our happiest when we’re learning new things and so this is the perfect way to improve your mind.

Valentines Day 2020

This Valentines Day is unlike any I have ever had before, I am in another Province with my mom who is recovering from surgery so we celebrated a week ago, he had flowers delivered to my work, and he took me out to dinner.   We do not need a special occasion to celebrate Love.

To the man who has brightened up my life in every way, You have been there to support me, love me, and share in both the many joys and sorrows of this past year. I am so thankful and feel so incredibly lucky to have married the man of my dreams and my best friend. I am so excited to share another Valentine’s Day together, but even more excited to spend forever with you. Even though we are apart for Valentines Day I am thinking of you and I miss you.

Try Out The Best Ideas To Hide Panty Lines While Wearing Any Body Tight Clothing:

Below shared are some useful and essential tips to avoid the panty lines while wearing any type of your skin fit dresses.

1. Go Seamless

This is one of the easiest ways to avoid panty lines that makes you feel like you’re a commando. We’re talking about seamless, barely-there panties that fit you almost like second skin. We’d totally recommend Pretty Secrets Skin Coloured Seamless Bikini for body-hugging clothes and fabrics. Seamless panties usually have laser cut edges that are barely visible and the material is either spandex or elastic.
2. Play Up Those Prints
If you’re planning to buy a body-hugging skirt or gym leggings, it’d be a good decision to buy something with busy prints. It’s easier to disguise panty lines with prints rather than a solid color. Prints ensure that lines don’t stand out prominently but they still may be visible. Just do a thorough check before you step out.
3. Get Used To Thongs!
One of the tricks to avoid visible panty lines is using thongs and g-strings! Because well, they don’t have any fabric that’ll show under your clothes! Yes, they are uncomfortable at first but you will eventually get used to it. Start by wearing them for short durations until you’re used to them. Also, thongs and G-strings can be a lot more uncomfortable if they’re tight, so make sure you buy the correct size.
4. Know Your Colour Right
How to avoid panty lines while choosing the right colors? Well, it is pretty easy! Besides visible panty lines, wearing undergarments that show through your clothes is a big no-no! If you’re wearing a pair of white pants, make sure your panty is skin color. Not even white, it still shows. Remember, for any white outfit or any light outfit that is a bit see through, stick to skin colored undies and buy a shade closest to your skin tone. Wearing dark underwear under a light fabric will only make it more visible and can look very unflattering.
5. The Fabric Counts
You can still wear body-hugging outfits without worrying about panty lines if you’re choosing a thick and textured fabric. Fabrics like silk and jersey are too fine and it’s a challenge to hide panty lines under them. Keep these for the less fitted clothes and opt for tweed and denim when going for fitted styles.
6. Say Hello To The Slip
Wear a fitted slip under your tight skirt or dress to banish panty lines almost instantly. Besides hiding your undergarments, a fitted slip gives you a sleek and slender look! For a seamless finish, we love this Eve’s Skin Suit. While a skin color goes with almost everything, you could even buy yourself an all essential black.

7. Layer It Up

Ever thought about layering your outfit with pantyhose or really thin tights under it? Well, while this is a great option to prevent panty lines, it’s best to wait for the cooler months to try it. Try this Sheer Black Pantyhose for a stylish look under your mini dress!

Pick your pair of thongs today.
