Weekend Recap

Friday~ left my parents around 9:30 am to head to my inlaws before the storm hit....
We arrived around 11:00 am- my hubby made us brunch- waffles (his dad made the waffle mix- amazing) and he cooked bacon along with toast, coffee- was delicious.
I was fighting a headache so I took an hour nap... Father in law was then home from work and the storm had started already- we decided to have Christmas #2 with them at 2pm when my brother and sister in law arrived with neices and nephews, they are hyper but so cute.
We ate food as usual- my inlaws are amazing cooks.
They didn't stay to late because the storm was getting worst and worst. Hannah and Micah ( neice and nephew) stayed here with us for a sleepover- hannah was so interested in my knitting that I told her I'd make her a scarf.

Brooke had a breakdown at midnight because Mimzy wasn't with us she was left at my parents with Brooke's suitcase ( that we had forgotten there) long story it is in more detail in Christmas #2 story (to come)
So finally got her settled down and they went to sleep finally.

MIL woke us up at 9 am to have breakfast- she isn't a sleeper so she was ready to get life started at 9 am, while we just wanted to sleep for another little bit, but because she don't see much of us we got up and ate with them.
They cooked scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, yogurt with coffee

FIL went to shovel some, we got a crazy storm last night, about 30 cmd, no idea what that is in inches.
I love to shovel so i went to help him, it was very heavy snow and i didn't stay long, hubby went to help after and then we decided we would go into town to use internet and visit Bro and Sis in law, well we were crazy to go in because the roads were horrible, good thing my hubby is a good driver.  I was so tensed up the whole drive in, had to drive to the highway to meet my dad to get Brooke's suitcase and Mimzy- all is well now.  we got in and i had to go to Great Canadian Dollar Store to get some wool for a scarf for my niece., they have some very pretty wool there…so i bought a bunch and hoping to sell the scarves.

Then hubby took me to SIL's to take care of kids while they both went to work and he went for a hair cut, i cleaned her house and did some laundry, i felt bad after because i have people in my life and if i did that it would offend them, i left her a note and told her i did it.  She is 7 mtgs pregnant and still working at a coffee shop so i hope it helped her out more then offended her.  I should have cleaned the kids rooms as well but i didn't even think of it til i was almost back to in laws.

We went to my favourite Chinese restaurant for supper "BoJo's"- we would go there when i was growing up, i even ordered the same dish, love that place.
Then we left to come home and the roads were treacherous
Again i prayed all the way home and so thankful for a husband who takes his time in bad weather conditions.  Coming here to my in laws there are a lot of big hills to go up and down, so thankful we made it safely.
I didn't realize how different life is without a cell service or internet, wow, it is quiet, we are getting some much needed family time in though which is always nice. I think we need to take more time away from electronics.

Sunday

There was no church here in town with my in laws so we went to Bishop's Falls and got to see more friends that we haven't seen in a while.  When we left my inlays the weather was beautiful, so our friends there asked us to their house for lunch and we went, around 2 pm, the snow started falling and we could see it getting worst and worst, we left right away.  Good thing we did because the roads were terrible, i had several panic attacks on the way home, Andrew is a good driver but even in this bad weather its scary.

very hard to see because it was while we were driving.

My FIL made spatula when we got home ( my favourite German food ever { he is German}) We hung out a bit and chatted with my in laws, ate pumpkin pie which was soooo yummy.  Since being here i have run on the thread mill for 10 mins a day, i need it after that cooking too.
Then we dug out the Star Trek movies.. Yes we are geeks, love Star trek.

Time for bed, tomorrow is the annual Grothe New Year's Eve party and i cannot wait

3D Snowman Cookie Tutorial
December is my favourite month of the year. The holidays are a big part of why – the lights, the trees, the smell of snow in the air, and of course, the baking! One of my absolute favourite things to make for Christmas is a gingerbread house. Decorating them is so much fun and I love trying out new things to make my house just a little different this year than it was last year. So for my guest post, I decided I would teach Rambling Momma’s readers how to make an adorable little 3D snowman that will look great in the front yard of any gingerbread house.Step 1: Bake up some snowballs.
You can use any white cookie dough for this, so if you have a favourite sugar cookie recipe, go ahead and pull it out. I’m partial to shortbread though, so here is the recipe I use.
Shortbread Cookies
½ c butter, softened
¼ c powdered sugar
½ t vanilla
1  c flour
Cream butter and powdered sugar. Beat in vanilla. Mix in flour.
Roll dough into balls, making sure you have three sizes. Laying them out on the cookie sheet to resemble a snowman will help you decide if you’ve got the sizes right.
Place balls about 1 inch apart on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes. The smaller balls will cook faster, so feel free to pull those out first if they start to brown.

Step 2: Stack the cooled snowballs
Using royal icing to attach your cookies, stack three of the balls to resemble a snowman. While you have the royal icing out, add some food colouring and pipe two round black eyes and an orange carrot nose. Let the royal icing dry completely before moving on to step three.

Step 3: Add some snow
Once the royal icing is dry and your snowman is nice and sturdy, roll it in powdered sugar to give it a snowy look.

Step 4: Decorate
This is the best part. Using a dab of royal icing, attach the eyes and nose you made in step two. Then dress up your snowman any way you’d like. I chose to add a scarf made out of fondant, but experiment with different mediums or even different types of clothing!

Thanks, Terri, for giving me the opportunity to write a guest post for you. I hope you and your readers enjoy these snowy little treats!

Guest Post # 2- Sybil

Here is my friend who agreed to doing a Guest post for me while i am on Vacation

Meet Sybil- she blogs over at Peace it all Together
It's such a small world. Have you ever had anyone say that to you? When you walk into a birthday party and one of the other moms is a good friend of your sister. Or, you go to a company event with your spouse, and it turns out he works with someone you went to elementary school with. Or, you join a blog hop, only to find someone who participated in the same ornament swap you did, on an unrelated site.

Hi, my name is Sybil. I blog over at Peace it all Together. I entered the blogging world earlier this year, in April. This is only my second guest post, ever. Thanks to Terri for allowing me to share her space.

When I began this adventure in blogging, I really didn't know much about it. I only knew I wanted to write. I thought of blogging as a safe way to "publish" my writing. I didn't have to get anyone's approval, yet my writing would be out there, in cyberspace, for anyone one to see.

What I didn't realize was how many bloggers there are and how many different types of blogs exist. From fashion to decorating. From faith to random ramblings. And, everything in between.

Although there are so many of us out there, we seem to stay connected. Whether it's through blog hops, link ups, the person who designs our blogs or leaving comments for each other, we make this large space, in which we all belong, seem very personal, very small.

Over the past few months, I have wondered where I fit into this blogosphere. I am a mother, does that make me a mommy blog? I write about my faith, my family, my son with special needs. Lately, I've found myself wanting to share photos of my home, how it's decorated for Christmas, and just day-to-day stuff. So, what is my category?

What I've found to be beautiful about blogging is that I really don't have to fit into one category. I don't have to just be a mommy or a Californian or a Christian. I can be all of those. The only limits that are out there are the ones I place on myself. I can swap ornaments AND share my deepest fears. Although, not likely in the same post, I can do both, in the space that I've created.

Have you ever been on the It’s a Small World ride at Disneyland? When I was a kid, that was my mom's favorite ride - actually it still is - so we had to go there first during every visit to Disneyland. I'm still not sure why she likes the ride so much, but as I was thinking of writing on this topic, I decided to look up the lyrics to the song, which plays over and over again as you ride the small boat through the attraction. Here are the lyrics:

It's a world of laughter, a world or tears
It's a world of hopes, it’s a world of fear
There's so much that we share
That its time we're aware
It's a small world after all

CHORUS:
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

There is just one moon and one golden sun
And a smile means friendship to everyone.
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small small world

Although the sheer number of and variety of blogs in cyberspace still boggles my mind, these little spaces, where we each pour out our thoughts, fears, faiths, and fashion and decorating advice, we can connect, from all over this small, small world. Pretty cool, huh?

Weekend Recap

Friday morning: I had gotten up extra early because it was Brooke's christmas concert and she wanted her ever so long, hard to curl, straight hair curled. So I used hot sticks and sock curls in all night- she had such beauty curls, I could cry when I look at her and realize how much she has grown up, soon she won't want me to do anything and may even resent me at times, I'd love to be her best friend and develop a relationship with her, I don't have that with my mom but I hope we can... Ok {that was a tangent, back to friday}
She did awesome playing her saxophone for the concert, she also sang with the choir, brooke you make momma so proud.
Concert was over at 11:30- we went home to change and hit the road....

First stop was at airport to drop of Andrew (not my husband), he is one of the Bible School students. Then we drove to moncton ( an hour and a bit awa) met my uncle to get a pkg to bring home to my grandpa.
2 hours later we picked up my BROTHER- I haven't seen him in almost a year, so we got him and then we ate food.
Get back in car and checks email with a notice from the ferry telling us our loading time has changed from 10:30 pm to 7:30 pm, we are 4 + hours away and weren't sure we could make it. We drove right thru- really didn't stop except for once to go to the bathroom because I may or may not have drank to much coke on the way :p
We got to the ferry and finds out the ferry has been changed to a different boat- the one we wanted so bad. We got the atlantic vision ( it was a old cruise ship) its so pretty inside and I didn't get any pictures because phone was dead. I will on the way back. Change of the ferries also meant our assigned seats were also taken now... So we did get the money refunded so its all ok- but this wasn't good for Andrew because he had to drive another 5 hours in the morning... We did secure some seats and got some sleep, brooke tried to stay awake all night but she did sleep for an hour and a bit. We did some exploring and tried to find a plug in for my phone but they were all square- a european boat explains that.

Saturday-
Arrived in Newfoundland at 3:30 am and already mentally and physically exhausted.
No coffee shops or gas stations were opened, so we drove 2 hours to find one, hubby had to give my bro the driving because he needs sleeps.
So while my brother is driving him and I had a lovely chat and made plans for a christmas eve party at my moms house.
We stopped for breakfast at big stop- was delicious.
Arrived at my parents around 9:15 am and slept til lunch, showered and then my grandpa came over to visit - it is so good to see him! Wish he was gonna be with us for christmas this year but he won't be.
Mom made me pea soup with doughbys for lunch- so good!
Her and I then went shopping for a bit, saw some friends.
Came home made dinner- home made fries and moose burgers. Love it
Moose is a native animal to Newfoundand, they shoot them here with a license and feed their families. I am a lover of it.
Spent evening watching dennis the menace christmas movies... Love it

Sunday- woke up to freezing rain and a yucky day so my dad cancelled church becuase of the dangerous driving conditions. I watched some tv with Brooke then headed back to bed for a bit. Woke up with a cold sore { it hurts}, mom and I organized presents etc. I also went to the pharmacy to get stuff for this cold sore... $20.00 later....ugh! Let's hope it helps it.
I did take a nap later in the afternoon because I wasn't feeling well- church also got cancelled in the pm . Friends of my parents came over to chat and have tea, then some other friends came by, was nice visiting time.
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve which means our annual Christmas eve party with family from both sides, also friends will be coming and then we have a santa coming :) gonna be so much fun.

Have a great week and remember the first king size bed was a manger filled with hay!

Advice Please

Good Morning Everyone

We are in the middle of a Winter Storm here
and
we leave in 2 sleeps

so please pray that this storm ends so we can still make it.
I think I am pretty well ready to leave, started packing yesterday, today i wanna finish it.

Ladies, I need some advice
I am a little hesitant to put this in the live blog world because of the people involved but i need to make the right decisions here, so i will publish and pray this person don't see it

My Mother
Since she lost her mother  eight years ago, she just hasn't been right
meaning
she seems to be very emotional
other times she is a very happy person
My father goes thru a lot when she is having a bad day
My brother and I really want to make a change when we are there
sometimes she disappears and no one knows where she goes, when we ask she don't give a straight answer
I think she is severely depressed and has a lot of anxiety.
The thing is i don't think she will go see a Dr with us, we may have to go see the doctor and tell him about it and hope he can do something.
What would you do?
I don't mean things are a little bad, when she is having a bad day she is having a horrible day
and everyone knows
She refuses to go visit any of her family anytime, so then she feels like she has no "family".  My aunts have tried to help her, she wont do it. There is one person who she will go visit all the time- i think she looks at this person as a "mother" figure.
I have talked to this mother figure in her life and she told me
trying to keep my mother happy is very exhausting to her
she said my mother follows her around like a lost puppy with a leash.
This hurts us
she also wont talk to either of us when she is having a bad day
if she do its because we have called and sensed something is wrong
she then wont go into details except that
she misses all of us
that's fine, we understand
My brother and I will be home for Christmas, my sister wont be.
I really need this fixed with my mom
because she has always been the one who makes everyone feel better. I know she needs therapy to get rid of this depression, I've been there i know how it feels.
I don't think she needs medication- even though some may disagree with me
there are so many other ways to fight depression
Maybe i should write my story some time and let ya all see how i fought it.

So Ladies, if you wouldn't mind i need some advice..
1) is it a good idea for us to go see the doctor behind her back
2) Should we talk to her first about this and how it affects us
3) What other advice can you offer me?

I submit a Review for a free book- so easy to do, check it out

Lightning Strikes outside the St. Thomas Church, causing it to split into 2.  The community then helps chip in to help build a new one. Brooke is a single mother to a son named Alex, who is diagnosed with leukemia.
This story wanted me to keep on reading! I could picture everything that I read like it was really happening. The characters go through tough situations that can happen to anyone! This book has happy moments as well as sad moments, so you will may laugh and cry at come parts.
I have not read many Christian-Fiction books and this is very well written! I recommend this book! I hope William Sirls will write more books! :)
I received this book for free from Thomas Nelson and their program, BookSneeze and was not required to write a positive review.

Weekend Recap

My friend Faith and i haven't hung out in a while so we made plans to spend Friday together..
Brooke left for school and i got ready to hang out
she was here by 9:45 am and we left for the mall- she needed to do all her shopping, so i went with her to keep her company- i was so tired when i got back at 3 pm- our pastor needed a sitter for his 3 kids so they came over here.. I hung out with their baby girl got snuggles and we had fun.. she slept just after 7 pm.  12:30am Jaredine, Moses and Andrew got here.  Jaredine is staying until Sunday pm then back to Ontario for Christmas with her family.  Andrew is staying here for the week then he goes home on Friday.  Moses is house sitting while we are gone on vacation for 3 weeks.  Here is me and my girlie Jaredene.

speaking of him being a house sitter for us, what kinds of "reminders" should i tell him about. I already have all phone number, garbage and recycling day, where the mail box is...tell me what else do i need to tell him about

We were all so tired from the 2 am  bedtime on Friday night that we were extra lazy this morning...
Hubby, Brooke, Jaredene and myself went grocery shopping...i don't like grocery shopping at all anymore, wish i could hire and pay someone to do it for me. While shopping Brooke kept saying her belly hurt.. i assumed it was because she didn't eat much so she got a drink and it seemed to help.
We then went to Zellers ( like target) and looked around bc they have 70% off because they are all turning into Target. Never really bought anything except a model car for my nephew.
Went to the mall after that to pick up a throw i had wanted for someone for Christmas when i was all done shopping i realized how i didn't have one for the sweet people who allowed us to live with them for 10 days when we first got there, Now i can officially say i am 110 % done.
We came home and had to put the groceries away and i made lasagna with Caesar salad for supper- it was soo good. Brooke didn't eat much because she kept saying her belly hurt... so i let her relax.
We went back to the mall after dinner to get Jaredene a phone battery.. no luck.  While there hubby text me and told me Brooke was puking everywhere- my poor baby got the stomach bug :( i hope she is feeling better by Friday when we leave for Newfoundland.  I hate it when she is sick it causes me to have anxiety and panic attacks.

We met up with another friend of theirs while at the mall and he came over for nachos. Brooke hasn't been sick since, I hope it is all gone now.
We watched ''Horton hears a who"and us girls knitted, i just learnt to knit this week and i am loving it so much.  Not making anything fancy yet though, i cannot wait until i can make hats with pretty flowers to accessorize them with because every girl loves to have pretty accessories.

Brooke was still under the weather on Sunday morning so her and I stayed home.
Hubby text me and said one of the ladies at church wanted to take us out for lunch, so Jaredene said she would babysit her... it was delicious food. I had omelet, fried potatoes, beans and toast- was so full..
After lunch we took her home and hubby and i had a big chat on the way home.

Jaredene had to leave Sunday pm - so her and i hung out in the afternoon, we chatted and knitted a bit...
I love her
we went to evening service and Brooke sang- was beautiful.

Day of Silence

Day of Silence

I cannot dream what parents are going thru today
after i heard about it yesterday
i was so sick to  my stomach
then realized my daughter should have been home from school
she wasn't...
my heart stopped
i ran out of the house and up the street to see her coming around the corner.
I hugged her extra tight and told her i loved her

Some parents don't have this opportunity anymore
they are grieving
wishing they had one more hug
to see their child come around the corner
be able to kiss them good night
wipe their tears when they were afraid yesterday

It isn't gun control we need
we took God out of our schools and let in all this evil, so it isn't gun control
we need GOD control

On Tuesday, December 18th, there will be a blogger day of silence. We will post the button and that's it. Please try to not post anything else that day if possible.

We are also raising money that will go to an organization in the memory of this tragedy. The organization is called The Newtown Family Youth and Family Services. Here is the official description of the support service we are donating to:

"Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.

ANY DONATIONS MADE TO NEWTOWN YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE DONATED DIRECTLY TO THOSE EFFECTED BY THE SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOOTING."

Please visit THIS PAGE to make your donation.

We can't imagine how they must be feeling, especially this close to the holidays. We would love for you to spread the word on your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Let's make a difference and use blogging in a positive way. Thank you in advance for participating.
