10 Ways to declutter your home and life

Let’s be honest: life is stressful. Between working difficult jobs, managing social lives,
paying bills, and raising a family, the smallest burdens can seem monumental. One thing that
often plays a huge role in causing stress and anxiety is clutter. Unfortunately, clutter and
disorganization doesn’t just go away and, oftentimes, the thought of reorganizing the clutter is
more daunting than living amongst it. Today, I’m going to discuss 10 ways to declutter your home
and life that are more effortless than you’d think.

1)Throw away what isn’t needed
That sweater that you haven’t worn in three years? Those free tote bags that you’ve earned from
spending enough money at a Black Friday sale? Stop kidding yourself by thinking you’re going to
use them again. Donate or sell items that still have some life in them and throw out what has seen its
days.

2) Do the same for your kids
If you’re a mom, it’s not abnormal to want to save every piece of your child’s upbringing. But trust me,
you can still cherish the memories without keeping every toy, piece of art, and article of clothing.
Keep the very special stuff and donate or sell what is still usable. A family in need will be beyond
grateful. Additionally, if you’re ever selling a home with kids, this can save you a ton of stress.

3) Rearrange furniture
It’s surprising how much space you can uncover just by moving around couches, vanities,
entertainment sets, you name it. Try arranging large furniture in a way that will allow for more open
space. This can help things feel less cluttered.

4) Update storage
This goes for areas of the house that lack in organization. Take underneath the kitchen sink, for
example. If you’re one of those people who fears opening it due to cleaning supplies inevitably
pouring out, this is for you. Try organizing supplies into plastic bins. This goes the same for any
cluttered drawer or cupboard. Research tips on how to declutter storage spaces for some savvy
ideas!

5) Put photos on a drive or in the cloud
We’re in a digital age, meaning most of the photos we own are dispersed amongst multiple phones,
tablets, and cameras. Take the time to import all of your favorite photos onto a flashdrive or onto a
cloud. That way, you have them all in one spot for when you need them.

6) Combine financial accounts
If you have a lot of bank accounts or credit cards open, it’s probably time to combine them.
This will make paying bills not only easier, but less stressful. Be careful not to harm your credit
score by closing out too many accounts at once, though!

7) Take a day to reach out to loved ones and old friends
Nobody ever said adulthood was easy. Couple the hardships of everyday life with the fact that you
rarely have the time and energy to reach out to every person you care about can leave you feeling
anxious. Take a few hours of a weekend or evening to call or message the people who haven’t
talked to in a bit. They will appreciate it and you’ll feel much better for doing so.

8) Clean your car
When I say clean your car, I don’t mean the outside. Driving is stressful, especially if you’re in a
car filled with half empty drinks, dirty napkins, and who knows what else! Remove the junk from
the car, vacuum, and even shampoo the interior if you feel like your car needs some extra love!
Your rides to and from work will be much more pleasant.

9) Clean your bedroom
Don't go to sleep and wake up in a room that’s anything less than a castle. Clutter causes stress,
and the last place you want to feel stressed is where you sleep. If you don't feel like cleaning anything
else, at least clean your room.

10) Take some time for yourself
Seriously! You’re allowed to treat yourself. Life in general is hard, and sometimes a day at the
spa can help you declutter whatever is going on in your mind. Relaxation is one of the most important
things you can do for yourself.

Thank you for joining me and I hope this post was helpful. A small amount of organization can go a
long ways. Stay tuned for upcoming blog posts and information and I hope to see you back here soon!

  1. Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this site.
It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's hard to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appearance.
I must say you have done a excellent job with this. In addition, the blog loads very
quick for me on Opera. Excellent Blog!
