Turn your garden into a backyard paradise

Just because you live in your home all year round does not mean it has to feel bland and tired and everyday boring. No. Life is way too short for that. Instead, what you should do is make your home feel like a staycation paradise, and the best place to start is your garden. Close your eyes for a moment or three and imagine how amazing it would be to come downstairs in the morning, boil the kettle and enjoy your first coffee in your very own backyard getaway.

Well, to make this dream become your reality, we have pulled together a few ideas to help you create a relaxing garden oasis that you can enjoy whenever you want or need to:

1. Dress Your Deck To Impress
The one thing every gorgeous destination has is common is a deck that allures you and that means making it a hive of activity, creating a few different zones and carving out areas designed for relaxing and dining. The easiest way to do this is to pop a pergola up, cover it in vines, place some comfy outdoor furniture beneath it all and then help it blend into the rest of your garden with an abundance of plants. Mmmm.

2. What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin
Above all else, a garden getaway needs one thing: a place for you to grill from spring through fall. Eating outside that never gets old, it just doesn’t, which is exactly why you need to get yourself an outdoor kitchen of some sort. That doesn’t mean you have to go all out and get yourself a garden room and a nice, big fancy grill, but a countertop where you can prepare food, a sink, a fridge and somewhere to get that sizzle on are absolutely essential patio additions.

3. A Lovely, Secluded Oasis
The more you can enclose your garden getaway and give it that feeling of privacy and seclusion, the more it will feel like a paradise. Our advice: surround your space with a plethora of canary palm trees, lattice fences, vine-covered pergolas, thick perennial plants and clever landscaping. You could even install an awning over your patio area if you live in a built-up area. Whatever it takes to shut the world out for an afternoon will be well worth it.

4. Accessorise Everything You Can
The more accents and statements you can make, the more your little slice of paradise will feel perfect. We’re talking about covering your garden sofas in an array of different sized, shaped and coloured cushions. We’re talking about laying a waterproof rug down beneath your garden table, hanging a rustic chandelier from the pergola and making end-tables out of massive plant pots. Think Morocco and you will be on the right road, that’s for sure.

5. A Splash of Luxury
Every piece of paradise deserves a little bit of luxury. Of course, how you go about choosing is up to you. It could be that you want to enjoy a relaxing soak in a hot tub at the end of a hectic day, or maybe you’d be happy with just kicking back in hammock with a book, or around a pit fire with your family - whatever it is, life is too short to not grant yourself the finer things in life.
