Week 8 - self control

{To Inspire and Encourage}

For the next few weeks I want to share a little study about the Fruit of the Spirit.

Why should we use self-control? Self-control is a life skill that we all need to define, practice, use, and internalize. We use self-control because it makes us feel good about ourselves. Rather than giving children external rewards for using their self-control, make it known that they are using their self-control to make themselves feel good.

Make a list of the positives and negatives in your life. Write down a list of which areas of your life are suffering and which are prospering. Focus on the essentials in order to keep the list brief.

Research the area in which you are lacking control. Read books or articles about the area you are having difficulty with.

Gradually increase your ability for self-denial. Start small by challenging yourself to control your behavior for a short period of time. For example, if you are addicted to television, try turning it off for one day.

Think about what you want to accomplish. Begin each day by visualizing the end result of your efforts. Imagine yourself healthier, happier, and more confident.

  1. Making a list of the good and the bad things in your life could be the first step to getting rid of the negativeness!

  2. Those are some great ideas. I need to make a list of the positives and negatives.

  3. Thank you for this post. I love your 'Just for Women Wednesdays' meme...it makes me think deeply and encourages me to see my life in a different light. Something I didn't know I needed until recently.

  4. I love this...I try to do this in every day meditation. Women need to take the time for themselves every once in a while! We are always worried about every one else except ourselves ;-)

  5. This is great advice. I think we all could use a little self control at certain aspects of our lives.

  6. I always thinks it's important to visualize the path we want to be on. And I could use a dose of self control!

Thanks for the blogging Love
