Why its important to keep an eye on vision

When you think about your health, your eyes may not be your priority. Most of us tend to focus on our body weight, but being healthy isn’t just about nestling in that normal BMI range or going for a jog a couple of times a week. Health is a much more expansive subject, and it’s really important to consider your health as a whole. Your mental wellbeing is important, and you should also keep an eye on your vision, your dental health and your hearing. Imagine a world where you couldn’t see. Although it’s not possible to prevent all conditions that affect your sight, there are some steps you can take to protect your eyes and ensure that any issues that can be remedied are addressed as quickly as possible.

Why it’s so important to keep an eye on your vision
Many of us would admit that we take our vision for granted. The trouble is that problems that affect our eyesight often develop slowly and by the time you actually seek help, major changes have already taken place. As well as having regular eye tests to check your sight, it’s also important to make sure that your eyes are healthy. Sometimes, changes in your vision or in the physical appearance of the eyes, for example, bloodshot eyes, can indicate an underlying health issue, which has the potential to be very serious. If you notice any changes in your vision at all, it’s always wise to arrange to see an optician and they can discuss any changes with you. If you already wear glasses or contact lenses and you’re struggling to see or read, make an appointment, as this indicates that your prescription may have changed and you might need stronger lenses. If you continue to strain, this could damage your eyes.

Simple eye care tips
If you can’t remember the last time you had an eye test, now is as good a time as any to pick up the phone and make an appointment. If you haven’t had any problems with your sight, there shouldn’t be any issues, but tests can identify changes or abnormalities at a very early stage. If you do already have glasses or contact lenses, you may be considering exploring the option of laser surgery. If this is the case, get in touch with some experts like those at Dello Russo Laser, find out more about the procedure, and make sure you understand both the risks and the benefits. If you’ve experienced changes in your vision, for example, you’ve started to struggle to read books, or you can’t see signs from a distance, book an eye test. If you’ve had symptoms like double or blurred vision, it's important to see your doctor as they could indicate underlying issues such as cataracts. However, you shouldn't panic if you find yourself in this situation, as your optometrist can talk you through the different treatments available and answer questions like the difference between laser cataract surgery methods for peace of mind. So, remember to book that eye test as taking care of your eye health is vital for quality of life and overall well-being.

There are various things you can do to protect your eyes, including wearing sunglasses on bright days and using eye care software when you’re using a computer. This kind of feature neutralizes the blue light on your screen. It’s also important to ensure you have a healthy, balanced diet. If you suffer from diabetes, it’s particularly important to attend regular appointments with an optician.

We tend to take our sight for granted, but can you imagine life without it?
