Nothing is worst then accidentally ruining christmas

For those that are playing host or hostess - or host and hostess - this Christmas, take a bow and accept this token which is good for one healthy pat on the back because you are a superstar. You are taking on a huge responsibility, one that goes far beyond making Christmas dinner and making sure your home is more welcoming than Santa’s Grotto; you are accepting responsibility for a super-fun Christmas. That’s on you.

The good news is, you have all the inspiration you could possibly need in the form of your own Christmas traditions, Pinterest and all those Christmas movies that are now swallowing Netflix. The bad news is, you can’t focus all your attention on what makes Christmas fun. You also need to be aware of what could potentially ruin Christmas.

Luckily for you, we have pulled together a list of the little things that could cause big upsets on your big wintery day, and here they are:

1. No Politics At The Table
Nothing is able to put the Christmas spirit back in the bottle as effectively as a chat about politics. It is one of those topics to be avoided. It is just one of those deeply rooted things that can only be taken personally and thus only go wrong. Even if you shake hands and have a drink together, that lingering stench of awkwardness will remain.

2. Don’t Run Out Of Food
Or drink for that matter. Christmas day is all about over-indulging. It is about cooking for nine hours only to see everyone leaning back in their dining room chairs in happy discomfort within thirty minutes. It’s not about overeating or being unhealthy this Christmas, it is about enjoying leftovers for the four days that follow. You don’t want waste, but you don’t want people to be almost-full either.

3. Feel A Chill
What with the manic hysteria in the build-up to your big day - shopping for food and presents, running back out to the shop because you forgot nibbles, setting the table et al - it is way too easy to forget to check your heating is not showing any sign of fault. To prevent this, speak to the people at One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning right now, use one of their generous coupons and make sure you’re heating system will keep everyone warm this Christmas. There is no recovering from this kind of mistake.

4. Don’t Forget The Board Games
There is some epic TV on at Christmas, but that doesn’t take away from the fact Christmas is all about having fun away from the screen and that means playing games. Of course, your board game list may be limited at best, so when your guests ask if they can bring anything, ask them to bring a board game with them, or any game.

5. Don’t Ignore Special Eating Needs
Nothing is worse than the realisation that you forgot to cater for Aunty Sue - the gluten-free-vegan who suffers from Crohn’s Disease. So don’t make this mistake. When you get a call from guests to say they will be able to make it but they have special eating requirements, make a note of it. No matter what you are doing. Make a note of exactly what their needs are. It will only make your shrivel up like warm lettuce if you don’t.
