Do you constantly walk into your bedroom and really dislike the way it looks, you don’t like the bedding, maybe you want to make it more vintage, boho or romantic.
Back sometime ago, I had a friend who was a interior designer and so I hired her to redo my bedroom, I gave her an idea board and she ran with it, she made my idea come to life… right down to the rug on the floor and the sheets on the bed.
If you read further down you will find out about some great bedding that I recently came across because I am now looking to change the room up a little bit as it is Winter here in Canada and my white bedding just don’t fit with the season anymore.
If there’s one household space that’s inherently designated to offer you optimal calmness and comfort, it is the bedroom. With the following tips, you can create a haven in your bedroom to escape the hustle-and-bustle of the outside world and restore your energies effectively.
Grow Bedroom Plants
Spending little time in nature helps to relax your thoughts significantly. This is why you need to invite nature into your bedroom, the very place you get to unwind after a stressful day at work. There is no doubt that plants add energy and a touch of beauty to your bedroom space.
But there is more to bedroom plants than aesthetics; plants also go a long way in purifying your indoor air. Paint and insulation can pollute your bedroom air with toxins, such as benzene and formaldehyde.
To get rid of these harmful toxins and to sleep better consider beautifying your shelves with the aloe vera or snake plant. These, among other houseplants, are known for their ability to absorb airborne toxins through their pores, and hence filtering the air to provide you a clean atmosphere for better inhalation and relaxation.
Install the Appropriate Lighting
The right lights can potentially bring tranquility and calmness into your bedroom. It’s not unusual to get restless during bedtime; your mind could be caught up in the chaos of unpaid bills, political fights, unread emails, or even the nightmare of your favorite team losing. What you need is not a vacation, but a well-lit bedroom.
Instead of using a large, central ceiling light bulb, place a couple of small lamps around your bed but at varying heights. Warm light bulbs are the best choice for your bedroom as they bring about a relaxing atmosphere. This is contrary to cool light bulbs which emit a bluish and sparkling light, which is normally found in areas where you’re required to stay alert, like office spaces.
Get Rid of Humidity
High humidity is often responsible for lack of comfort in your sleep; it causes allergies and difficulties in breathing. Ideally the levels of humidity in your bedroom should be at approximately 50% throughout the year. Thankfully, it’s possible to control your indoor climate and dictate a relaxing environment thanks to the modern dehumidifier.
How does it work? You wonder. A dehumidifier extracts moisture from the atmosphere and the condensate is collected in a tank before getting discharged, either manually or continuously through a hose pipe. Some dehumidifiers come with a humidistat that enables you to set your desired humidity range for optimal relaxation and comfort. With a dehumidifier in your bedroom, you can expect to enjoy a relaxing night's sleep without waking up hot and sweaty, and consequently, start your day refreshed and rested.
Take Advantage of Aromatherapy
There is a wide array of celebrated essences for their calming effect and capacity to combat anxiety and depression. You may, therefore, consider investing in an essential oil diffuser as an effortless way of self-care. A diffuser only requires water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil to turn your bedroom into a relaxing oasis.
This device breaks down the essences into small molecules and subsequently disperses them into the atmosphere, creating a calming and relaxing environment. Some of the most effective oils for this purpose include lavender oil, chamomile oil, bergamot oil, and clary sage oil.
Install Blackout Curtains
Blackout curtains have become a fashion statement as they are made in different patterns and shapes to match your bedroom’s interior décor and give you a fantastic space. These materials are also known for their durability and unmatched effectiveness in noise reduction, room darkening, privacy protection, and energy-saving. These abilities bring out the best part of blackout curtains; bringing relaxation to your bedroom space.
Your body cannot rest properly when sunlight or security lights are penetrating your bedroom, which is where these opaque curtains come in handy. They block 99% of unwelcomed light from entering your bedroom, providing you a relaxing slumber whether you are sleeping during the day or night. Shortly put, blackout curtains offer you a quiet, dark, and tranquil cave-like space for optimal relaxation, giving you the much-needed break from the busy world outside.
Create Some White Noise
A relaxing bedroom doesn’t need to be too quiet. Although white noise has the word “noise” in it, it’s also capable of creating a soothing bedroom environment. The noise essentially masks potentially disturbing sounds from outside, including those from children playing or watching TV in the next room.
Generally, white noise is a continuous soothing sound that your ears barely hear and your brain hardly notices. Take, for instance, the low hum of your air conditioner; this is considered white noise. For maximum effectiveness, why not equip your bedroom with a white noise machine? These machines create relaxing echoes such as birds chirping, dogs barking from afar, or wind whistling through the trees.
Generate a Color Scheme
I bet you love bright colors like apple green, or maybe peacock blue. But hey! These upbeat colors will do more for you in the office and kitchen where you need to stay alert and active. When it comes to your bedroom, you need a restful and serene atmosphere.
Think about soft and relaxing colors like light coral, spa blue, or dove gray. Bed comforters, walls, upholstery, and windows are excellent platforms for filling your bedroom with color. You may even go wild and choose a different cool color for your walls and still get a relaxing bedroom. Here are some of my favourites I have come across when looking:

Bebejan Echo White 100% Cotton 230 Thread Count 5-Piece Reversible Comforter Set
Create a Peaceful Reading Area
Reading is an activity that mentally shifts you from a chaotic environment to a soothing place. A good number of people have a reading area, but some fail to equip and make good use of that tranquil space in their bedroom.
In this space, get a comfortable reclining chair. Make sure that the chair has a soothing color and accommodates your body snugly. Bring in a table and a reading lamp to complete your reading sanctuary. Use this place to unwind for at least ten minutes each day.
The Bottom Line
A good number of people lack the time to find effective ways to relax optimally in their homes. As a result, they experience anxiety, stress, and restlessness when retiring to bed. Guess what? Your bedroom is your perfect retreat space following the daunting day-to-day activities. It is the space for which you should yearn when looking to relax, breath in moments of peace, rest before drifting off to sleep. Therefore, your first goal when it comes to your bedroom is to create a relaxing atmosphere, which is now possible with the above tips.
