Transform Your Home Into An Unbreakable Fortress In 6 Simple Steps

Anybody with a family will want to believe that their home is an unbreakable fortress, however, most of the time they haven’t taken the appropriate steps to truly make it that way. People usually only realize until it’s too late that they didn’t take this step or that step, so it’s always better to be prepared before you even have cause to worry.

Luckily, you don’t need to completely overhaul your home. You can actually transform your home into an unbreakable fortress in 6 simple steps. Read on to find out what they are.

Step 1: Install A Smart Alarm System
First things first: install a smart alarm system. The fact is, any high quality alarm system can work. That being said, a smart alarm system has many advantages over other types. For example, it can alert you when you’re not even in the area and something is amiss. You can even install smart systems to open and close curtains when you’re not home, as well as control lighting. This can make it look like somebody is home when you’re away on holiday, or out of town on business. It’ll give you that extra peace of mind.

Step 2: Surround Your Home With Sturdy Fencing/Gates
In some cases, you may not be able to protect your home with sturdy fencing and gates, e.g. if you live in a semi detached property. You may not want to do this either, if it will make your home look more like a prison than a home. However, it can be a great way to deter criminals further. Even a sturdy gate has the potential to put criminals off and keep them out.

Step 3: Secure Your Windows And Doors
Securing your windows and doors should be one of your first ports of call if you haven't done this for a while. Is there anything that needs updating? Could they do with some maintenance, or even replacing altogether? Don’t forget that your garage can easily be a target of thieves too, so steel security doors can be a good solution for this. Make sure they are as safe as possible and ensure you keep them locked.

Step 4: Make Sure You Have Appropriate Lighting
Lighting outside of the home has the potential to keep criminals away, as they can be spotted more easily than in a dark area. If your home is pitch black, you’re simply giving criminals more opportunities to hide. Having lighting with sensors can be a wonderful solution to this.

Step 5: Don’t Give Criminals Anywhere To Hide
Have a good look around the outside of your home and figure out if you’re giving criminals an easy place to hide. Installing CCTV is a good idea, but you need to check out your blind spots too, if any. If you have a huge bush or tree in the garden, maybe you could keep it well maintained and trimmed to ensure that it can’t become a hiding place.

Step 6: Make Your Security Known
Don’t keep your security a secret. Make sure your CCTV can be spotted a mile off, and use signs to your advantage to let people know that you are not an easy target.

Don’t give criminals an easy ride - use these tips and you can stay safe!
