As moms, we’re great at keeping tabs on our children's health. We feed them healthy food,
make sure they get plenty of exercise and impose strict bedtimes so they’re getting
enough sleep. We limit sugary snacks and make healthy swaps so that their little
bodies have everything they need. However, we might not be so good at looking after
ourselves. This is counter productive because of course, we need to be healthy and
energetic in order to look after our families to the best of our ability, but we can often
feel like we simply don’t get the time or have the energy to hit the gym or workout.
However there are ways around this, and one of the best things you can do is get active
WITH your kids. Not only is this a great time to bond and have fun but you set a good
example to them. Here are a few family friendly activities you can do which will keep your
kids fit as well as yourself.
Bike rides
is a great opportunity to get out having fun. Biking is fantastic exercise, it tones the lower
body and improves cardiovascular endurance. You could research biking routes around your
area or head down to the local park. Chances are it will make you feel nostalgic about your
own childhood if you’ve not rode a bike in some time, but it’s true what they say- you won't
forget! Hop on your bike and enjoy time spent with the kids taking in the views and fresh air.
Educational walks
Walking is one of the best activities you can do- it’s accessible, free and something that
people at most fitness levels can do. Just make sure you have a supportive pair of walking
shoes, sore feet can be corrected with insoles such as Biopods It goes to
show that exercise doesn't have to be all about going for the burn, and a nice walk can be
relaxing and a chance to chat to your children in different surroundings. Do you have woods,
rivers, canals or beaches close to where you live? Check out some trails and go on walks
or hikes together. You could print out some activity sheets from Pinterest and look out for
different plants, animals or minibeasts together. It’s a fun way to learn and stay active at the
same time. You could take some binoculars and go bird watching, or even bring a couple of
Outdoor games
Frisbee, football, rounders and cricket are just a few examples of simple games you could
play at the local park or beach. Invite some members of the family and organise a game
with teams, the competition can give you a boost and you’ll all have so much fun that it
won’t even feel like exercise. These are the sort of things that will help you make memories
with your children and it’s a wonderful way to get everyone moving.
