Brain Games: Challenge Your Mind in 2020'

Are you hoping to expand your mind in 2020? Perhaps you’re in a bit of a rut, maybe you’re bored and want to fill your time doing something useful or maybe you want to start making the most of your mind while you’re young and it’s still sharp! Here are some things you can do to improve it.

Read more books
Reading is so good for the mind. Unlike watching tv which is a passive action, reading forces you to use your brain- but it’s still relaxing and can really kill hours of boredom when you’re into a good book. Set a goal of how many books you’d like to read by the end of the year and then go about getting through one every few weeks. A good book is never a chore and so should be one of the easiest resolutions you achieve this year! Especially when you find a genre or an author that you love.

Do puzzles
Puzzles are great little boredom busters. Before everyone had mobile phones to sit and scroll through, people would do puzzles when they were at a loose end and it’s a really effective way to challenge your brain. From sudoku to crosswords to jigsaw puzzles and word searches, they all fire up different areas of the brain. You could even have a go at creating your own puzzles, use a word descrambler then work your way backwards to create a word game and see if one of your friends or family is able to solve it. This can be just as challenging as doing a puzzle yourself!

Travel
Travel challenges your mind in lots of ways. Having to figure out how to navigate a brand new place where you don’t even speak the language can be tricky yet rewarding, plus it’s really fun so is an enjoyable way to challenge yourself. If you wanted to really push out of your comfort zone you could even consider solo travel. As long as you take common sense safety precautions you’ll be fine and are likely to learn so much.

Take a course or class
Learning new things is a great way to expand your mind, it can be really satisfying and rewarding particularly in adulthood where you might not have dedicated time to learning about a new subject or skill for many years. It could be an academic course at an online college or university, it could be a class that you go to in person such as crafts or baking. You could join a local sports team and immerse yourself in a new sport which will keep you fit while also teaching you new things. As humans we’re curious creatures, we’re at our happiest when we’re learning new things and so this is the perfect way to improve your mind.
