You’re taking the plunge; you’re moving
homes with your baby. Even though everyone in your life has advice for how to
make this whole process go smoothly, there are a few essential things to know
about moving with your baby for the first time.
Divide your things into essential and
nonessential:
You don’t want to end up on moving day with
your entire box of diapers headed down the road on a moving truck. You also
don’t want to be stuck with one thousand baby toys rolling around on the
floorboard of your car. The key is to strike a balance. Keep things that are
necessary in small box that you can load in your car last. This would include
things like food, diapers, clothes, blankets, or other comfort items your baby
would need for this journey.
Coordinate Childcare:
If you have friends or family coming to
help you with this move, designate one of them as the babysitter for the day.
Then you can concentrate on organizing and handling all the details of the
moving day without having your baby under your arm. If you aren’t having
friends over to help, it’s a good idea to hire a sitter for that day so that
you can get all of your boxes put into the right rooms and settle things with
your movers. This way, you are free to make sure that all details go without a
hitch.
Set up the baby room first:
This is where those non-essential baby
items make their debut in your new home. Once everything has been loaded into
the house, unpack and set up the baby’s room first. You now have somewhere for
the baby to play or sleep while you handle the rest of your rooms during the
move. Your family, friends, or sitter can quickly get your baby adjusted to the
new settings. If they baby is calm and occupied, you can focus, and the baby is
less stressed.
Get organized:
This move can be stressful enough, buy a calendar
and notepad to get started. Break everything down into steps. Create baby
safe-zones in all areas of the house so as you are packing, you don’t have to
worry about your baby getting into things. You don’t want to worry about having
to find your baby’s favorite blanket in some random box either. Organization
keeps the baby and you peaceful.
Following these few tips will help make
your move easier with your little one!
