Wednesdays for Women

Wednesdays are for Women
To Inspire and to Encourage

Always Give Thanks?

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
When bad things happen to me, my first reaction is not to be joyful. I don't feel like giving thanks when I'm hurt by a good friend, or when I fight with my parents or things are not the way I think they should be I feel like saying, "If God really loved me, this wouldn't be happening!"
But then I look at all the ways God has blessed me. God gives me great, amazing gifts all the time, and I hardly ever remember to say, "Thank you." If I paid more attention to praising God and less attention to my problems, I'd be a lot more joyful person.

What about You?

Think back to a time when something bad happened. What were your prayers like then?

  1. It's definitely hard to be joyful in all circumstances. When I realize that God has every detail in His hands and is able to turn hard things into good things in my life, it's easier to experience joy in the midst of circumstances.

  2. This is a lesson I am still learning in my old age, Terri. :) I am DEFINITELY a lot better at being thankful and at peace regardless of circumstances now than I was when I was younger.

  3. Wow....where do I even start? My prayers were first for healing, then a miracle and finally mercy for my Lori as she fought her illness for three years....I am very thankful I had 15 great years with her.....

  4. Yes, trials are often blessings. Sometimes I just don't realize it until later.

  5. Aww, this is such a lovely post!
I'm not really religious, but it's nice that people get comfort from it.

  6. I agree! I just read something that suggested going one whole day focusing only on the positive, and then trying again the next day... and to see how many days in a row this could be sustained - I thought that was a really great challenge and a way to shift seeing the glass half full into a habit!
