How to be happy and healthy from head to toe

Loving your body can be difficult in a world where almost all the images you see have been touched up or Photoshopped to perfection. While this kind of perfection might be everywhere, at some point, we are all going to have to accept that we aren’t going to look like this in real life. This means learning to look in the mirror and love yourself as you are, rather than look and wish you saw something else.

Aside from self-confidence, loving your body is also about realising what is a healthy body shape and what isn’t. However thin those models are and however much value society seems to place on being skinny, the truth is that those poor girls are starving themselves and stressing their bodies in an unhealthy way. Being thin really isn’t everything.

So what can you do to feel happy and healthy from top to toe?

Well, apart from looking in the mirror and smiling at all your favourite bits instead of focusing on that wobbly bit and this hideous angle, you should also know what a healthy diet looks like as well as how to maintain your fitness, health and wellbeing.

In other words, stop thinking about what you would feel like if you were a supermodel and start looking after yourself.

Diet and Exercise

Your diet is probably the most important thing you can do for your overall health. This is where you get all the energy and nutrients you need. However, your diet is also where you can take some pretty serious missteps which have a detrimental effect.

The best thing to do is remember one phrase to live by: everything in balance. You can eat cakes and sweets and crisps, just remember that they need to be balanced out by fruits, veggies, salads and other healthier foods. There will always be a day where you just want to enjoy your food and get stuck into the high-fat high-carbs we all crave. You can do this; just make sure that you balance it out and eat really well for the following few days.

The next thing to think about is how you can get more exercise each day. If you aren’t a natural gym bunny, try to get out for a walk during your lunch hour or maybe even join a team sport for a more social way to work out. There are lots of ways to incorporate more exercise into your schedule, you just need to find the right thing for you: go dancing at the weekend, try yoga at home, deep clean the house… the options are endless.

Healthy Lifestyle

Though a balanced diet and exercise will give you a strong foundation, you will also need to have a healthy lifestyle in order to feel good. This means going for check-ups when you are called, visiting the doctor when you are sick and going for regular visits to the dentist to keep on top of your oral health. You could also consider getting in touch with DentaCare emergency dental if you need to see someone fast.

Your mental health is just as important as your medical health and staying in touch with your feelings is a good way to ensure that you can maintain good mental health. Our modern world is becoming increasingly stressful and switching off from everything is getting really tough. In fact, the instance of mental health issues is rising and it’s likely that you will experience some stress, anxiety or depression at some point in your life.

While this is rightly concerning, the most important thing you can do to help yourself is to take time to relax and to be honest with your friends and family about how you feel. Most of the time when you feel sad or down it will just be a passing thing, but the sooner you notice when something is wrong, the sooner your can have the problem treated and the less impact it will have.

Even in 2018, people can get embarrassed about admitting they have a problem with their mental health, but if you have an open attitude, you will stand a much better chance of recovery. There is nothing to be embarrassed about, mental health and physical health are just as important and both are worthy of being talked about and treated. And seeking treatment is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Build Your Body Confidence

The final part of being happy and healthy: loving yourself for who you are and what you look like. For many women, this can be a difficult thing. You might have an insanely healthy diet, go running twice a week and a great attitude towards your general health, but loving your body still takes time and effort.

The thing is that body confidence isn’t about having a “perfect” body (whatever that means) but is about saying: this is my body and it’s perfect for me.

If you are struggling, one good method is to stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself properly. While you are looking, catch your eyes and smile at yourself. The mirror is a  tricky beast because it will always reflect what you are looking to see. This means that the best way to see the thing you want is to make it happen and then forget about all the other stuff. In other words, if you want to see someone who is happy and looking forward to the day and has hopes and dreams, you need to be that person when you look.

It might sound silly, and sure for the first few times you might feel weird, but learning to love your reflection is the first step to loving the body that you look after so diligently. You don’t have to be happy and healthy every minute of every day. Some days will be amazing, others won’t - but being realistic and having the confidence to say ‘this is me’ will give you everything you need to shine.
